Counselling and psychotherapy is a confidential, goals-based process between you and your clinician. Therapy is a voluntary process of which you can withdraw at any time. It provides a safe space for self-exploration and therefore, it’s natural to experience emotional ups and downs, especially if you're healing from difficult experiences. In therapy, you have control over what you're comfortable saying, and your clinician will respect your choice every step of the way.
Your clinician will guide you through a brief assessment of presenting issues and develop a joint treatment plan to address your concerns. You will then hear about the most relevant treatment approaches to help you achieve your goals.
Session duration and pricing arrangements (including any financial assistance through private health and/or governmental schemes) are negotiated with your clinician before the beginning of therapy.
The cancellation policy is as follows: Unless you are an NDIS participant, if a session is missed without at least one business day's notice, you will be required to pay the full fee. This is because missed sessions without enough notice prohibits the clinician from scheduling in another client, and also incurs costs of room hire that cannot be avoided. This policy can be discussed in greater depth if required and can be voided if mutual agreement is reached post-cancellation.
All information collected is confidential and password-protected. There are, however, important legal limitations to confidentiality (i.e., where your information is not kept confidential). These are listed below:
1. If there is an immediate identified risk to your safety, the safety of other adults, or the safety of young children.
2. If your information is demanded by a court order (Subpoena).
There may be times where your case may be discussed within clinical supervision, for training purposes, or may be written about (e.g. within an article, blog post, or book chapter) with the aim of publication. All identifying details will be altered to maintain confidentiality and anonymity.
